UPS Check

UPS check is a way of organizing information to help solve math story problems.  We've spent a lot of time practicing and working on these in small groups and now the kids are doing them independently.

The U stands for Understand and is where they write important information from the story problem to make sure they understand the problem.

The P stands for Plan and they write what kind of problem it is (addition or subtraction) and how they will solve it.

The S stands for Solve and this is where they draw a picture and write a number sentence to solve the problem.

The "check" is a spot for them to work the problem a different way.  We've been using a number line in this part to check our work.

Enjoy the pictures of us working on our UPS check problems in small groups!

This was our first day to do our own so we worked through it together as a class using the document camera.
