Back to School

We had a great first week of kindergarten!  We spent this week (and will spend a lot of time the next several weeks) learning routines, procedures, and expectations.  Our class and school motto is:
I am respectful.
I am responsible.
I am safe.
We've been talking a lot about what those 3 words mean, what they look like, and what they sound like.

This year during our literacy block, the students will work on The Daily 5 while I pull small groups.  The Daily 5 are:
1. Read to Self
2. Read to Someone
3. Listen to Reading
4. Work on Writing
5. Word Work
So far we've learned how to "read to self" and we've used some of our "word work" tubs.

Joshua, Noah, and Vivek working with alphabet puzzles

Sunny and Madeline matching letter to the letter cards

Gabriel and Lucas building color word puzzles

Reese and Kennedy racing to put letters onto the letter arc

Madeline, Saba, and Lily working together to put the alphabet in order and match capital and lower case letters on our flannel board

At the end of the day, if we have time we get to play in free centers (blocks, home, puppets, or any Daily 5 activity or math station).  The kitchen is definitely a favorite for them!

Emily building with the blocks

I'm so excited to spend this school year with my new cute group of kindergarteners.
